How to find and pitch the right brand partners
Good partnerships can open doors that marketing budgets can't. Here's how to find them and get a yes.
A well-chosen partner can put you in front of an audience that already trusts them. It can be one of the most cost-effective ways to grow, if you pick well and pitch properly.
Look for shared customers, not shared products
The best partners sell something different to the same people. A wedding photographer and a florist. An accountant and a business bank. Local business groups are where a lot of these start. You complement each other rather than compete.
Know what you bring
Before reaching out, be clear on what's in it for them. Access to your audience? A better experience for their customers? New revenue? Partnerships fail when only one side benefits.
Start small
- A co-hosted event or webinar
- A guest article or newsletter swap
- A joint offer for each other's customers
- A simple referral arrangement
Small tests build trust and show whether the fit is real before either side commits much.
Pitch like you'd want to be pitched
Keep it short and specific. Say who you are, why you think there's a fit, one concrete idea and what you'd need from them. Make it easy to say yes to a first conversation.
Agree how you'll measure it
Decide up front what success looks like: leads, sales, sign-ups. Track it properly so you both know whether to do more.
