Choosing a social media agency: questions to ask first

The right agency can transform your social presence. The wrong one burns budget on vanity metrics.

Social media can be one of the most time-consuming parts of marketing, which is why many businesses hand it to an agency. Before you sign, ask these questions.

How will you measure success?

If the answer is only followers and likes, be cautious. Ask how they'll connect social activity to enquiries, sales or website visits.

Who will actually do the work?

The people in the pitch aren't always the people on your account. Ask to meet whoever will create your content and manage your channels day to day.

Can we see results for similar businesses?

Look for examples in your sector or at your size. A great result for a global brand doesn't mean they'll deliver for a local business.

What do you need from us?

Good social needs input: photos, product news, access to your team. Understand how much time you'll need to give.

What's included, and what costs extra?

Paid ads spend, content shoots, community management and reporting are often priced separately. Get it in writing.

What are the contract terms?

Long lock-ins before you've seen results are a warning sign. A trial period or short initial term is reasonable to ask for.

Social media management is not a service we offer. We work with trusted partner agencies and can introduce you to the right one for your business.
