Fractional and part-time marketing leadership
Senior marketing judgement a few days a month, for a team that has the hands but not the direction.
What's included
- What your marketing should be doing this quarter, decided and written down
- The order the work goes in, and what gets dropped to make room
- Your team's gaps, and whether the answer is hiring, training or buying it in
- Suppliers and agencies managed, briefed and held to what they promised
- The handful of numbers you report upwards, and what they actually mean

Questions about marketing leadership
Why is this not a fixed price like your other services?
Because the work has no fixed scope. Every other service here is a defined piece of work with an end, so it can be quoted as one number. Leadership is a rhythm rather than a deliverable: the job changes month to month, and a fixed price would mean guessing the scope and then defending the guess. So it is priced by time, with the days agreed in advance so you always know the bill before it arrives.
How many days a month do most teams need?
It depends on how much decision-making there is, not on the size of the team. Two to four days a month is the usual shape. Fewer work when someone capable carries the work between them, and more are needed when the team is new or the direction is unsettled. We would rather agree a small number and add to it than start high.
Is this the same as hiring a marketing director?
No. A full-time director is there every day, and that is worth paying for when there is enough senior work to fill the week. This is for when there is not: at two to four days a month it costs a fraction of the roughly £108,800 a year it takes to employ a marketing director once National Insurance and pension are counted, which what marketing costs in the UK sets out. Our piece on what a fractional marketing director does has the rest of the comparison.
What happens to the work between your days?
Somebody on your side has to carry it, and that is the thing that decides whether this works. If there is nobody to pick the work up, you need a different arrangement, and we would say so rather than take the booking.
Can it end?
Yes, and it should. The aim is a team that runs without us: a plan it owns, a rhythm that holds and someone in it ready to lead. We would rather hand over than stay indefinitely.
